University of Hartford

A short report on what was achieved last Friday 9/16/22 at the ‘Unhappy hour’ of AAUP-UHART-Advocacy-Chapter:

by Dr. Hemchandra M. Shertukde, Ph.D., P.E.

We met at 4:00 pm at Professor Bryan Sinche’s home in West Hartford, CT. CSC-AAUP sponsored refreshments and drinks ($300). Officers brought additional food and goodies.

The purpose of this event was it gather and vent our ‘unhappy ness’ and encourage new invitees to join AAUP. We met new professors, and we stressed the importance of a stronger voice of the faculty for promoting academic freedom and shared governance.

About 17 professors joined, some are existing members and some were fresh invitees. I distributed the goodies I had picked up from the Summer Institute in Reno, NV (3 AAUP-SI t-shirts, four buttons and four AAUP brass lapel pins). All got rummaged in no time. I returned home with an empty AAUP bag.

Overall, it was a great experience to meet new likeminded professors from UHART. I was a little disappointed at the turn out, as we had sent out 40 invites and just 16-17 attended the ‘unhappy hour’ and that too on a Friday evening. I took some pictures which were shared with you two, a few days ago on the weekend and are attached here, and can be added to this report, as well for ready reference.

BTW:  We are scheduled to host national AAUP DOS Organizers – David Kociemba and Jerome Thompson for the October 14 meeting on Organizing”.
